Support Us

HMS is proud of its achievements in bringing live orchestral and choral music to the community for over 90 years.  However we receive no funding from the Arts Council and are dependent on signing up supporters and securing sponsorship in order to realise our musical aspirations. Society members themselves pay the basic running and rehearsal costs through annual subscriptions.  We seek to encourage students to join by halving the normal fees and by promoting participation in concerts by pupils at local schools.  We also work hard on publicity and recruitment. Promoting and staging our concerts is increasingly expensive with costs frequently exceeding £2000 per performance.  This includes hire of Haslemere Hall, bringing in additional orchestra players and engaging top-class professional soloists.  Even with a full house, ticket and programme sales do not cover expenses.  Please help us to continue offering exciting live music to local people by becoming a supporter. Our Friends and Patrons are the vital core of an appreciative and discerning audience.  We like to feel that their financial contributions are made out of a generous desire to patronise the arts.  As a local amateur society and registered charity we are not in a position to provide much in the way of tangible rewards, but we do what we can

Become a Friend

A Friend’s subscription is just £20 a year.  You will receive regular communications from our Friends and Patrons Secretary.  Your name will appear on this website and in all four concert programmes unless you choose to remain anonymous Current Friends of the society.

Become a Patron

We are especially grateful for annual donations from our Patrons. A Patron’s subscription is a minimum of £50 a year.  Patrons are listed in each concert programme and enjoy special privileges, such as regular newsletters and an invitation to our social functions. In addition to the benefits accruing to Friends we further show our appreciation by offering a complimentary programme for any concert you come to, on production of your Patron’s card.  We also invite you – along with singers, players and performers – to the post-concert parties for the nominal fee which all members pay. Patrons also have a standing invitation to attend rehearsals if they let the Friends and Patrons Secretary know in advance Current Patrons of the society.

Our Patron’s Secretary, Evie Page, would be delighted to hear from anyone who would like to become a Patron or Friend:

Legacies

Why not leave a legacy to HMS?

If you have valued your association with HMS whether as a singing member, orchestral member or as part of the audience, you will know how much the Society has given to you, perhaps over many years, through the magnificence, beauty and emotional power of music. We need your help to safeguard the future of HMS and to ensure that the next generation of singers, players and audience may experience HMS as you have known and loved it. If you would like to leave a legacy to HMS in your will, your best course of action is to arrange this through your own solicitor. If you prefer, the Chairman will be pleased to put you in touch with an experienced solicitor, connected to HMS, who can offer you professional assistance. HMS is very grateful for all legacies and is happy to recognise your generosity, if you wish, with an acknowledgement in our concert programme. If you are able to leave £5000 or more, we will be pleased to dedicate a concert in your memory.
